Before You Buy

Before buying a flashlight you need to determine what you need the flashlight for. Do you want one to keep in the car? Do you need one for nightly walks with the dog? Or do you need one for something else entirely? Different flashlights are designed for different purposes, such as the EDC style of light.

The EDC style of light is one that can be used for a variety of tasks, including walking the dog, reading a map, or any other ordinary task. EDC style lights offer different brightness levels providing you with the right amount of light for the task at hand. Durability is something else you need to consider before buying an EDC style of light. You want a light that will stand up to everyday use.

Fenix E35UE Features & Benefits

User Interface

The Fenix E35UE is operated by a dual side switch. The dual side switch provides quick and convenient operation. The master switch, which is the bottom switch, controls General Mode and allows you to switch between brightness levels. The Auxiliary Switch is only used to control SOS and Strobe Mode. Turning the light on requires you to press and hold the master switch for .5 seconds, this will put you in General Mode. Pressing and holding the Auxiliary Switch for .5 seconds will start the light in Strobe mode. To cycle through the different modes single click the appropriate switch.

Lockout Function

Fenix-E35UE-LED

The lock-out function on the Fenix E35UE prevents the light from accidentally turning on when not in use. Be warned if you do activate the lock-out function the light will not respond. If you try to operate the light you will see two low flashes. Activating lock-out mode requires you to press and hold both switches for three seconds. The light will blink twice and go out to indicate it is locked. To unlock the light you will need to press and hold the two switches for another three seconds.

Overheat Protection

Using the Fenix E35UE on its higher settings allows the light to generate a lot of heat. Too much heat can cause numerous problems within the light and can make the light too hot to handle. On the highest mode, which is Turbo, the light will only run for five minutes before it automatically steps down to High mode. This step down is to prevent the light from overheating. Turbo mode can be accessed again by resetting the light. Warning resetting and reactivating Turbo mode too many times in a row can cause irreversible damage to the light.

Intelligent Memory Circuit

With Intelligent Memory Circuit the Fenix E35UE will automatically remember the last brightness level used. This feature allows you to power on the light with the last mode used in general mode. Intelligent Memory only applies to general brightness levels; it will not work with Strobe or SOS mode.

Social Proof

If you are looking for a compact and powerful light you can rely on for daily use I would have to suggest the Fenix E35UE. While most of the opinions about the Fenix E35UE are good there are a handful of complaints. One of the complaints people have is about the dual switches. These switches offer no backlight, so finding them in the dark can be a bit challenging. Others complain about having to press and hold the switch down for activation, but this is just another way to prevent accidental activation. Some people like the Turbo mode, but others wish the Fenix E35UE didn’t get rid of the burst feature.
